Australian High Commissioner visits Chakwal
On Tuesday 31 October 2017 the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms Margaret Adamson inaugurated the successful completion of drinking water supply, wastewater treatment, street pavement, construction and repair of surface drains in Bullay Bala, Chakwal, Punjab Province.
These improvements to WASH services have been undertaken as part of the Scaling Up PATS in Punjab project by Plan International Pakistan in collaboration with the Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department (HUD&PHED), with financial support from Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Civil Society WASH Fund.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Adamson said she was pleased that this Australian Government initiative had helped to bring high quality international and national expertise together to address the WASH needs of the community of Bullay Bala. Ms Adamson visited a number of project sites, including the Government Girl's High School in Roopwal village where water and sanitation improvements have been undertaken under this DFAT-funded project. Members of school’s WASH club performed a skit and poem about the importance of WASH. The High Commissioner also participated in a meeting of the District Coordination Committee meeting, a group established and trained during the project, where the achievements of the project were shared.
Also participating in the visit were Mr Imran Yusuf Shami, Acting Country Director, Plan International Pakistan, Mr Asim Saleem, National Program Manager WASH, Mr. Hasnain Kazmi, Project Manager Scaling up PATS in Punjab, Mr Salman Yusuf Additional Secretary (Tech.) HUD&PHED, Punjab and representatives from HUD&PHED and Plan International Pakistan.
