Community and School Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Project (CS-WASHPro)

Plan International in Vietnam

Project Description

This project in Vietnam will benefit 361 marginalised ethnic communities in five rural districts within the three provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Kon Tum. It will operate through district and commune government to change hygiene behaviour and increase use of improved sanitation at the household level. The goal of the project is for girls and boys in ethnic minority communities and their families to realise their rights to clean water and improved sanitation and practice good hygiene behaviours.

Project Location

CS-WASHPro project will be implemented in five rural and mountainous districts (Minh Hoa, Dak Rong, Huong Hoa, Kon Plong and Kon Ray) of three provinces (Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Kon Tum). Population within this project area is approximately 194,000, many of whom are ethnic minorities. These ethnically diverse areas include the following ethnic groups: Pa Ko, Van Kieu, K’Ho, H’Re and Xe Dang. Rural communities in these areas are generally accessible from the provincial and district centres by road. It can, however, be quite challenging to reach some communes and villages during the rainy season (May to November) due to mountainous terrain and large waterways.
