Supporting the Enabling Environment for better WASH services in Northern Bangladesh

Habitat for Humanity in Bangladesh

Project Description

Habitat for Humanity will deliver a 4 year integrated WASH program with a focus of improving access to facilities for the poor and vulnerable, while strengthening the enabling environment for better WASH services in Northern Bangladesh.  Local Community Based Organisations providing microfinance, Community WASH Committees and school groups will be engaged for software activities including: hygiene promotion; sanitation demand creation; monitoring and maintenance.  Private sector actors will be strengthened through targeted trainings and technical support.  Government support mechanisms will be engaged to provide longer term support to community groups.

Project Location

The project will take place in 3 Districts in Northern Bangladesh: Mymensingh, Tangail and Netrokona.  The 36 rural villages represent just a small sample of more than 7,000 villages across the 3 Districts.  These villages have been chosen because of low WASH coverage levels, and low presence of other actors implementing WASH programs.
