Inclusive School Toilet Block Designs - Bangladesh
As a part of the Australian Aid-supported Community Development Initiative 2 WASH program, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BRCS) has prepared these inclusive toilet block designs. Once these adapted, gender sensitive and disability sensitive installations are built, they will benefit around 13,000 school students and teachers from disaster prone areas.
In Bangladesh, unfortunately like many developing countries, school toilet blocks are often an afterthought in school constructions. Little or no provisions are given to making these girl-friendly or accessible to children with disabilities, often preventing children from fully participating in school. Minor design features, which don’t have to cost more if included in the initial design, can have profound effects in enabling inclusive participation in education.
